Bacteria Could Power Your Next Smartphone

It is a common knowledge that bacteria are responsible for many diseases and infections, but they can be put to good use too. Physicists at the Oxford University established through a study that they could serve as an alternative source of power in the nearest future.

Bacteria in their natural state move randomly. Computer simulation of a lattice of 64 symmetric microrotors was created by the researchers and immersed into fluid filled with bacteria. They realized that the bacteria organized themselves spontaneously, resulting in the spinning of the rotors.

Oxford University physicist, Dr Tyler Shendruk, who conducted the study and a co-author of the paper containing details of the study said:
“ When we did the simulation with a single rotor in the bacterial turbulence, it just got kicked around randomly, but when we put an array of rotors in the living fluid, they suddenly formed a regular pattern, with neighbouring rotors spinning in opposite directions.”

The result of the study led to the conclusion that the random motion of bacteria could be employed to power microscopic “wind farms” or devices such smartphones.

“Nature is brilliant at creating tiny engines, and there is enormous potential if we can understand how to exploit similar designs,” Senior author, Professor Julia Yeomans explained.

Even though the power generated right now is limited and can only be used for micromachines, it is worth looking forward to as smartphone users in regions with erratic or no power supply will be able to heave a sigh of relief at their charging nightmares.

The Pokemon Go craze continues on the App Store

The craze for Pokémon Go has skyrocketed, recently setting a new App Store record. Apple Inc. revealed that in its entire history, the augmented reality game is one of its most downloaded apps, in just a week following its launch.

Starting July 5, the Pokémon Go game was initially launched in a limited number of countries that included the US, Australia, and the New Zealand. Now, thanks to its utmost popularity among nostalgic Pokémon fans and young gaming-lovers, the app has been made available in an additional 26 countries, much recently in Japan.

The mobile game challenges players to go out and about, and hunt for available Pokémon characters at various “PokeStops” in their neighborhoods. The app’s detailed graphics and trending soundtrack have given way to a craze all over the world; the Pokémon Go soundtrack is being excessively streamed on platforms like Spotify. Furthermore, Mac Rumors has confirmed that the game’s debut has played a vital role in increasing plenty of foot traffic.

Apple did not offer any details regarding the exact number of downloads for the game made in its first week on its App Store; however, it did confirm that the game’s popularity is on an upward trend ever since its roll-out.

According to Sensor Tower’s study, the game managed to secure 7.2 million downloads. In comparison to the 2.2 million downloads for Angry Birds 2, and the 1.8 million downloads for Candy Crush Jelly Saga, Pokémon Go’s numbers speak for themselves.

Fortune claims that the game was downloaded almost 40 million times on both Google’s Play Store and the App Store. Considering that the game grew to 21 million active users in just two weeks, it is highly likely that as the game becomes available in other countries around the world, Pokémon Go will go on to break more records.

However, some users have recently stepped forward and posted their complaints regarding the game’s offline servers on Twitter. Niantic and Nintendo reassured users that these servers are being worked on, and will be fixed promptly. It seems that the increasing usage of the game is leading to immense pressure on some of Google’s servers, which are helping run the game.

Considering that Pokémon Go has broken former records for other popular apps on Apple App Store, the tech giant has plenty to benefit from, thanks to the game. The company has a set deal to secure a 30% cut for all the game’s in-app purchases; this has led to strong chances that Apple’s revenue could increase drastically by next year, given that the game continues to trend at the same pace. The App Store’s app discovery feature might as well be deemed useless, since users seem to know exactly what they want to download these days.

Verizon Buys Yahoo For $4.83bn

Verizon, U.S.  telecoms giant, has announced its acquisition of Yahoo, the online behemoth, for $4.8 billion.

Verizon, which owns AOL, by acquiring Yahoo’s core business for $4.83 billion, will benefit from Yahoo’s advertising, content, search and mobile activities.

“Just over a year ago we acquired AOL to enhance our strategy of providing a cross-screen connection for consumers, creators and advertiser,” Verizon Chairman and CEO Lowell McAdam said in a release.

“The acquisition of Yahoo will put Verizon in a highly competitive position as a top global mobile media company, and help accelerate our revenue stream in digital advertising.”

However, Yahoo’s stakes in Alibaba and Yahoo Japan aren’t part of the acquisition.

These stakes are worth tens of billions of dollars alone. As of Friday, July 22, 2016, Yahoo’s 15 per cent stake of Alibaba represented $31.2 billion, and its 34 per cent of Yahoo Japan was worth $8.3 billion. Yahoo’s patent portfolio, which is worth around $1 billion, isn’t part of the sale either. Yahoo’s Sunnyvale headquarters are part of the acquisition, according to a source.

Yahoo will be integrated with AOL, and Verizon EVP and president of the Product Innovation and New Businesses organization Marni Walden is going to lead the process. AOL CEO Tim Armstrong also mentioned Marissa Mayer in his memo.

“Yahoo is a company that has changed the world, and will continue to do so through this combination with Verizon and AOL. The sale of our operating business, which effectively separates our Asian asset equity stakes, is an important step in our plan to unlock shareholder value for Yahoo,” Marissa Mayer said in the release.

Once the deal closes, Verizon wants to merge Yahoo and AOL to form a bigger advertising and media subsidiary. This way, AOL gets more scale and reaches enough Internet and mobile users to become an advertising giant reaching hundreds of millions or even billions of people.

Eventually, Verizon wants to compete with Google and Facebook when it comes to advertising.

When Marissa Mayer joined Yahoo in July 2012, she had big plans to make Yahoo relevant again. She doubled down on mobile, made dozens of acqui-hires, acquired Tumblr for $1.1 billion, acquired Brightroll for $640 million and revamped key products, such as Yahoo Mail, Flickr, Yahoo Weather and Yahoo Messenger.

WhatsApp temporarily blocked again in Brazil

The hugely popular WhatsApp smartphone messaging service was briefly blocked by a Brazilian court Tuesday for the third time in less than a year after failing to surrender user data to police.
The latest drama ended after the Supreme Court president, Ricardo Lewandowski, accepted an appeal against a lower court order that shut down the service nearly four hours earlier.

“The suspension of service apparently violates the fundamental precept of freedom of expression and communication,” the Supreme Court said, adding that Lewandowski found that the lower court judge’s decision seemed “not very reasonable and not very proportional.”


WhatsApp gradually resumed normal service after the high court’s ruling.

This had been the fourth court-ordered suspension of WhatsApp, which is owned by social media giant Facebook, since February 2015 and the third in the last 12 months.

The long-running dispute pits Brazilian authorities’ insistence that they need access to communications between alleged criminals against Facebook’s argument that it is protecting privacy and freedom of communication.

In the last incident, in May, the blockage lasted a day before being lifted on appeal.

The shutdowns have angered users reliant on the free app. Cell phone fees for texting and calls are high in Brazil and WhatsApp’s group chat and image-sharing functions have become embedded in everyday social interaction.

“We hope that this puts an end to blocks that have punished millions of Brazilians and that people can continue using services like WhatsApp to stay in touch with those who matter to them,” the company said in a statement.

Earlier, lower court Judge Daniela Barbosa had ordered telecom companies to put an immediate nationwide stop to WhatsApp services.

Barbosa blasted Facebook as irresponsible for refusing “to provide information that will be critical to the success of an investigation and later to bolster the criminal case.”

It was not clear what was involved in the criminal case, but Barbosa said Facebook had been issued with three requests to provide messages to police investigators in Duque de Caxias, north of Rio de Janeiro. The 19-page court ruling said Facebook must comply or face fines of 50,000 reais ($15,265) a day.

WhatsApp was defiant, calling the order an “indiscriminate” threat to “people’s ability to communicate, to run their businesses and to live their lives.”

The company said it hoped “to see this block lifted as soon as possible.”

Billionaire Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg called the May shutdown “very scary in a democracy.”

But in the latest ruling, Barbosa criticized Facebook’s attitude, saying the company responded to Brazilian police with its own list of questions demanding explanations, adding that these were made in English, as if Brazil were “some small republic.”

The judge said those mourning the loss of WhatsApp “should remember that the main victim of the crimes being investigated is society itself, with the certainty that all the time, new victims are being created and new crimes are being committed while the judiciary is unable to stop the incidents or punish those responsible.”

WhatsApp responded in its statement that it doesn’t comply in revealing the encrypted communications because “we cannot share information we don’t have access to.”

WhatsApp is estimated to be used by 100 million Brazilians, making Brazil the second biggest user country after South Africa, according to data cited by the court.

Kirusa, an Information Technology company that provides telecoms and social media solutions, has introduced ‘myGenie’, a free airtime app for prepaid Android users in Nigeria.

The myGenie app allows Android users to explore and download new and popularAndroid apps.

According to Kirusa, they can use the free credits to recharge their mobile numbers or gift the airtime credits to their friends and family.

According to it, the apps that can be downloaded through myGenie range from games through dating to local utility apps.

Speaking on the occasion, The Head, Financial Inclusion, African Development Bank, Robert Masumbuko, said, “We are excited about myGenie app being launched in Nigeria. African mobile app developers will now have the opportunity to reach out to a wider audience and get assured usage of their apps. It will also influence app usage market, thereby opening doors for fresh investments in this sector.”

Removable or Non-removable battery smartphone, which one should I go for?


It has always been such a never-ending struggle when it comes to choosing the right smartphones that meet both your needs and your budget. And the confusion is high when we are asked whether removable battery phones or non-removable is better for our phones. Let’s break this commonly-asked question into smaller aspects to easily compare.


1. Durability factor: Removable battery phones win

Personally, durability is the factor I value the most when choosing a smartphone, or a smartphone battery. Imagine your smartphone (which is not waterproof) falls into the water. The fastest way to save it is to immediately take out the battery and dry it out. In this case, removable battery phones clearly lead the game. Another situation to take into consideration is a ruined battery. After a certain time of usage, your smartphone battery life decreases considerately. The first product out of consumer robotics company Desin, Obi looks like a clean, modern kitchen appliance that could improve the quality of life for sufferers of conditions such as ALS, cerebral palsy, MS, Parkinson's and brain or spinal injuries. After a caregiver divides the meal into Obi's four separate bowls, users are able to feed themselves through a simple interface: one button moves the arm between the bowls, and another selects that food, dips the spoon in and brings it up to the diner's mouth.



Those inputs can be customized, depending on the specific needs and abilities of the user. Big bright "Buddy Buttons" on the table can be useful for those who still have some function in their hands but lack the fine motor skills required to steady a spoon. They could also be placed on the floor to use as foot pedals. Pillows that respond to the slightest squeeze allow for head and cheek activation, while a small mouth piece switch can be triggered through sip or puff actions.

When dinner's all done, Obi's plates and spoons, which are BPA-free, can be thrown in the dishwasher, microwave or freezer. Desin says the device will provide two to four hours of eating time for each charge of its internal batteries.


Obi's available for US$4,500, which includes the plate, placemat, a large and small spoon, charging cable and user documentation. The "Buddy Buttons," pillows and mouth piece can be ordered separately, depending on user needs.

Google launches final Android Nougat Developer Preview




Google today released the fifth and last preview Android Nougat before the scheduled final release later this summer.

According to the company, this preview includes the latest version of the Android Nougat emulator to do apps final testing, the final N APIs, the latest system behaviors and UI and the latest bug fixes and optimizations across the system and pre-installed apps. As far as we know, there are no new user-facing features in this release, though Google has occasionally made minor tweaks to the user interface between developer previews.


The Nougat Developer Preview is now available for Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9 and Pixel C devices, as well as General Mobile 4G Android devices (both in the form of over-the-air updates and system images).


To get the preview, no action is needed if you are already enrolled in the Android Beta program: Your devices will get the Developer Preview 5 update automatically. If you aren’t yet enrolled in the Android Beta program, you can still visit android.com/beta and opt-in your eligible Android phone or tablet. You also can download and flash this update manually.

“This preview gives developers the near-final system updates for all of the supported preview devices,” the company wrote in a blog post.

The name for Android 7.0 was chosen by fans after an online survey. As usual, since the release of Android Cupcake, each version of the mobile operating system is named after something sweet: “Nougat” is a confection made with sugar (or honey) that usually contains nuts.

Google hangout gets video messaging support




Two years after hangout for iOS got the video messaging
feature, Google has finally rolled out the video messaging
feature on the Android version of Hangout.

Basically, the video messaging feature on hangout isn’t a
video calling service like Skype (it already has the video
calling feature locked down). However, it does pretty much
what it’s intended to do. And that’s the ability for users to
record and send videos to other users.

While that sounds interesting but isn’t new, the video
feature on hangout is limited to one minute in duration. Not
only can you record and send videos, users can equally
send already recorded videos which could mean videos
from the device’s gallery.

Although the feature isn’t too late (maybe), the feature is
quite odd in the sense that, Google usually rolls out new
features on its Android platform before iOS. And Android
users had to wait for over 2 Years before getting a feature
that’s been on iOS version of a Google app.

Months before, the hangout version on iOS could only
record and send 10 second videos but that was upped a few
months back to a minute. Same video length Android
hangout users can utilize now.

As a consolation, the iOS version of Hangout can only
record and send videos in 360p quality while Android users
can record and send in 1080p FHD quality.

Another news worthy of mention is that Google recently
unveiled two messaging apps; Allo (hello) and Duo. One
being an assistant app and the other being a video calling
app. Hence, Hangout for Android just getting video
messaging support may not be much of a biggy. But then
again, it’s better late than never.

Google To Give African Computer Science Students Graduating In 2017 Exclusive Access To Its Offices In Warsaw & Zurich





Google has announced it will be giving African computer science students that are graduating in 2017 exclusive access to its offices in Warsaw, Poland and Zurich, Switzerland.

This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is made possible through Google’s new Inside Look events.

The students will get an inside view into working as a Software Engineer at Google, and see the products Googlers are developing in each of the offices.

In Warsaw, the selected students will get to know more about the Google Cloud platform. The students will learn more about the projects the Cloud team is working on.

On the other hand, the Zurich Inside Look event will be all about YouTube and Inbox.

During both events, there’ll be tech talks, panels, hands-on workshops and plenty of food and Google goodies.

The Warsaw event will hold on September 23, 2016 while that of Zurich will take place on September 30, 2016.

Interested students should apply by July 24, 2016. Selected students will be notified by mid-August.

Why a Quad-Core Processor May Be Faster Than an Octa-Core Processor


To dominate the mobile market, OEMs now go into specifications war, beefing up their devices’ specifications every year. Their marketers capitalize on consumers’ ignorance, selling lies and making money off them. Sadly, this trend will continue until consumers know the technicalities behind these things. However, it’s a known fact that this will never happen; OEMs will continue with these gimmicks while consumers keep getting fooled.


Take camera resolution for example, a lot of consumers would rather go for a phone with 21MP camera with only f/2.8 aperture instead of a 12MP camera with f/1.8 aperture and OIS. This is because they believe that the 21MP camera would produce better pictures. These huge numbers do not always matter.

An octa-core processor is not always better than a quad-core processor.


While a lot of consumers have an idea of what processors do and how they contribute to the overall efficiency of a smartphone, many do not realize that an octa-core processor is not always better than a quad-core processor.

An octa-core processor has 8 cores, with a quad-core processor having
just 4 cores. Since more is better, anyone would think a device with 8 cores is the real deal.





What these cores mean


Your processor is the Central Processing Unit that processes everything that happens on your device. Whether you are surfing the web, opening a file, scrolling through pages, the processor is meant to process information. The reason it’s called a processor is because it processes everything. It’s as simple as that.


Without going into techy details like memory cache, ALUs, instruction pipeline, I/O control hardware and the rest, it becomes easier to understand when when the processor is seen as the Central Processing Unit, and the cores are seen as processing units within the CPU.


Having 8 cores is like having 8 people in a room working for you.
However, it should be noted that not all these 8 cores are employed at once. As a matter of fact, most applications make use of one or two cores at a time. One might argue that games need all these cores, but this is why a GPU (Graphic Processing Unit) is there to work with the CPU.


Most of the time, the other cores are just there, doing nothing. A well-coded application should never demand all cores to work. This will take a heavy toll on the battery.


What makes a good processor?


The number of cores, right? This contributes to the overall efficiency of a processor, but it’s not even the most important.

Clock rate: This is the frequency at which the processing units or cores are running. This is normally used to indicate a processor’s speed. A 1.3GHz octa-processor cannot be compared with a 2.0GHz quad-core. The quad-core may beat the octa-core processor in single-core processing multi-core processing.


Still OEMs put 1.2GHz octa-processors on devices and make it sound like a great thing.


Architecture: Qualcomm, MediaTek, Samsung, nVidia and other companies manufacturing chipsets for mobile phones use ARM’s design and circuitry on how a processor should be built. The manufacturers use ARM’s reference design and there are different versions. A newer architecture like ARM Cortex-A73 will surpass an older architecture like ARM Cortex-A5 in performance

Stop focusing on the number of cores

The fastest mobile chipset in the world right now has only 4 cores, and that’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 . Using the big.LITTLE configuration, two processors are clocked at 2.4GHz while the other two are clocked at a lower frequency of 2.0GHz.


Next time you’re picking a phone off the shelf, it’s not always about the number of cores the processor has, be more concerned about the clock rate and architecture. OEMs will make you believe 8 cores is always better, but your phone is not really going to need them all.
And by the way, the iPhone 6s has just a dual-core processor, and it’s still one of the top 10 fastest mobile devices in the world .

Playing Pokémon Go in Nigeria.


It's safe to say Nintendo's hit mobile game Pokemon Go is more suited for playing in the clean, well-lit streets of San Francisco or the impeccably-maintained parks of New York.


Anarchic Lagos on the other hand, with its seemingly suicidal motorcyclists, festering sewage and prowling thieves, doesn't appear to be the ideal place to go hunting virtual creatures.


But some locals in the West African megacity think nothing of braving the chaos to catch them all.
"Here it's like Mad Max, you've gotta be sharp or else there will be some injuries," Timi Ajiboye, a 23-year-old software developer, told AFP.


"Sometimes it's just not safe to bring out your phone. If you do, thieves will come at you like flies," added Ajiboye's younger brother Tade.


Playing may be dangerous yet Nigeria has its perks, insisted the 19-year-old electrical engineering student at the University of Lagos.


"There's so much rare Pokemon here because it's not a mainstream country," Tade said. "Fortunately for me, I live here."


The 19-year-old explained that he's seen "quite a few Bulbasaur" though hasn't been able to catch the green dinosaur-like species since "they are very stubborn".
Like many other players around the world, the Ajiboye brothers found a way to download the game when it was released early this July, despite it being officially available only in the United States, Australia and New Zealand.


The enthusiastic uptake is a sign of the mobile revolution happening in Nigeria, which is Africa's largest mobile market.


Companies have committed to 3G coverage in 90 per cent of the country and are starting a fibre network roll-out in six cities, according to Bloomberg News.

Batphone, it's really all aesthetics. The metal sides
are black and glossy, which feels quite different in
hand compared to the regular model. And then
there are the buttons. Samsung has customized

correspond with the Olympics rings. The home
button and earpiece are yellow, the power button
is red, the volume rocker is green, and there's a
blue bezel around the camera. It looks a little
funky! But it makes more sense when you realize
what the phone commemorates.



Sadly, Samsung isn't tossing in a Gear VR this
time. So you lose out on the really sleek, all-black
VR headset that came with the Batman edition.
Perhaps Samsung figures athletes are too busy
training to spend much time getting lost in VR. Oh
well. You do get a nice (though rather large)
carrying case alongside the phone. And that's
pretty much it. The Olympic Games Edition is just
another new coat of paint for Samsung's flagship.
It's free swag for Olympians, and yet another
thirsty marketing tactic for the company to get its
brand front and center in Rio. If you're a fan of the
color scheme, you'll be able to buy it from Best
Buy beginning in August. And since this is the
unlocked model , it should work on all the major
US networks.

Easy method to save your submerged phone in water.




Got your phone submerged in water? Cry no more.
Submerging your phone in water isn't the end of it. You can
actually save your phone by yourself. Do not hesitate, follow
these steps below:


Step 1
Get your cell phone out of the water and remove the
battery immediately. This reduces the risk of a short
circuit.


Step 2
Remove the cell phone's SIM card quickly, as well, if
you have an older model cell phone where the SIM card
is easily accessible. If you cannot get the SIM card out
quickly, skip this step.


Step 3
Dry your phone and removed parts with an absorbent
cloth. Be careful not to damage any internal
components, just gently pat everything dry.


Step 4
Blast your cell phone, battery and SIM card with a can
of compressed air to remove any remaining water the
cloth did not absorb.





Step 5
Fill a large bowl or plastic bag full of white rice.


Step 6
Submerge the cell phone, battery and SIM card (if
removed) into the rice until completely covered.


Step 7
Leave the cell phone, battery and SIM card in the
rice overnight, but preferably for 24 to 36 hours.

Step 8
Remove the cell phone and its parts from the rice
after the allotted time period.


Step 9
Blast the rice dust off of each part with the can of
compressed air.

Step 10
Reassemble your cell phone and turn it on to see if it
is working.


You can also try another method using silica gel (that which is contained in a small bag when you get a new stuff like shoe).


Silica gel is a desiccant which means that it is hygroscopic (readily taking up and retaining water).
You can use lots to save your device.
So try keeping those bags whenever you go shopping just in case.

While Nintendo's second ever mobile effort, the absurdly popular Pokémon Go, has already won a legion of fans and sent the company's shares through the roof, a lot of people out there will be scratching their heads and thinking "What on Earth is this Pokémon Go thing all about?" Dive in as a long-time gamer takes the plunge and boots up the hottest mobile game of the year.




The premise here is simple. Using your smartphone's camera, the game projects animated critters into your immediate surroundings, letting you capture and battle them. You can also visit real world locations to gather items, as well as team up with and compete with other players.
On paper, it's a clear attempt to take the core Pokémon concept – capturing and fighting little monsters – and take it into the real world with a touch of augmented reality. For fans, that seems like a dream come true, but what's it actually like to play?

When you first boot up the app, you create your character from a limited set of aesthetic options, and are then immediately tasked with picking your "starter" pokemon, just as you would in a standard franchise entry.
Then, your chosen animal pops up on the screen, AR-style, and an upward swipe on the display sends a pokéball (which is a sort of super-high tech, spherical animal cage) flying forward, and within moments … congratulations, you've captured your very first Pokémon!


That action is extremely simple – literally a single gesture – but it's also quite satisfying, at least at first. From our experience with that app, that's
Pokémon Go in a nutshell: It's kind of fun, and a little addictive, but there's not a whole lot of depth on offer.



Having bagged our first Pokémon, the next thing we did was wander down the road to the nearest Pokéstop, which are useful locations tied to real-world landmarks, in this case a local sculpture. When you get close enough, you can spin an icon that pops up on the screen, and are rewarded with a selection of new items, free of charge.




While I hadn't encountered any wild Pokémon during my walk to the Pokéstop, I had a little more luck on the return journey. Strolling along, a vibration alert told me a creature was close by. After a tap on the screen, the Pokémon – a Pidgey – sat there in front of me, ready for catching. After a first missed attempt at flicking the pokéball towards the little guy, my second shot hit its target, and within moments another pokemon was mine.
Tapping around the UI and then closing the app with nothing left to do, my opinion of the experience sat somewhere between enthusiasm and apathy. Catching the Pokémon was in no way a challenge, and the whole thing is over in a matter of moments, but the novelty of seeing it right there in my world, like I'd actually happened upon it in the wild, was undeniably satisfying.

Samsung Galaxy S7 vs HTC 10 comparison.



The early part of 2016 saw the triumphant arrival of Samsung and HTC's newest phones, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and HTC 10. Though the two devices have enough similarities, and many tech insiders view the HTC device as a worthy opponent of Samsung's latest flagship phone, it remains to be seen whether the HTC 10 can hold its own when compared to one of the best-selling smartphones in the United States.

The Galaxy S7 measures 5.61 x 2.74 x 0.31 inches and weighs 5.36 ounces. Though it looks a lot like its predecessor, the Galaxy S6, Samsung has done away with the metallic rim around the physical home key, and this has given the smartphone a cleaner look. It has an IP 68 certification, meaning the device is protected from dust and accidental water splashes. The device is available in Black, Gray, White, and Gold.
Meanwhile, the HTC 10 measures 5.74 x 2.83 x 0.35 inches and weighs 5.68 ounces. It has a glass and metal body and has an IP 53 certification, which means that the phone is only dust resistant. The phone comes in Black, Gray, and Gold.


Display
When it comes to screen size, the HTC device has a slight advantage over the Samsung phone as the HTC 10 has a 5.2-inch Super LCD 5 screen, while the Galaxy S7's Super AMOLED display measures 5.1 inches. Both have a resolution of 1,440 x 2,560 pixels.


Camera
In the camera department, the HTC 10 wins as it has a 12-megapixel rear camera with features such as dual-LED flash, RAW image capture, face detection, self-timer, and more. It also has a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with an optical image stabilization feature. The Samsung phone has a 12-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front shooter as well.

The HTC 10 is powered by the quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with 4 GB of random access memory (RAM) and built-in storage of 64 GB, which can be expanded with a microSD card. Interesting rumors about the Samsung Galaxy Note 7


As Samsung prepares to announce the Galaxy Note 7 on August 2nd , rumors have been swirling around the new features the smartphone maker may pack into its latest device. As usual, rumors are to be taken with a grain of salt, these are the most probable ones we've seen so far.



The Galaxy Note 7 is expected to come with a 5.7-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display and feature the same dual-edge design that Samsung has on the Galaxy S7 Edge. Rumors are also pointing toward the device coming with 6GB of RAM, a 12MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, and running on a Snapdragon 820 (or possibly 821) in the US, and on Samsung's Exynos 8890 SoC internationally.





According to the rumors , Samsung's latest smartphone will be water-resistant, gain a bigger battery — possibly up to 4,000mAh — and a base model that will ship with 64GB of internal storage, which would be a nice bump up from the Galaxy Note 5 (take notes, Apple). Rumors also point to the Galaxy Note 7 having a USB-C port, and coming in black, silver, and blue.
Nothing about those rumored specs are too outlandish, and should be expected in what is routinely Samsung's most powerful device. The biggest rumor so far has been the iris scanner, which would allow you to unlock your Galaxy Note 7 and possibly authenticate apps by simply looking at the camera. Samsung has filed for a patent for an iris recognition system, and shots of the UI for the potential iris scanner popped up on Weibo a few days ago, giving the rumor a bit more credibility.
If the rumors and reports are true, Samsung's work on the Galaxy Note 7 should be enough to get fans excited about the new smartphone. More rumors will likely pop up in the coming days, with just over two weeks left before Samsung takes the wraps off its newest smartphone. We won't have to wait too long to find out what's real and what isn't.
